Help! I am
having problems emailing my photo.
Deadline for photo submission is midnight on Tuesday, August 24, 2010. Mailed photos must be postmarked by Friday, August 20, 2010 to be accepted. Voting will end midnight on August 31, 2010. Mailed votes must be postmarked by Wednesday, August 25, 2010 to be accepted. Winners will be posted on the web and notified by email or US mail.
How long will it take for my photo entry to appear? This is not an automated system, and photo entries will be uploaded once a day. If your photo was submitted by 12 noon you should see it on the website by 12 noon the following day—assuming you paid the entry fee via PayPal. You will receive an email notifying you that your photo has been posted with a link to share with your friends and family. Occasionally, due to unforeseen circumstances, the posting of new entries may be delayed. If you do not see your photo on our website within 48 of uploading a photo and paying the entry fee via PayPal, please email or call (907) 388-1312. Note: If you mailed your entry fee, your photo will be uploaded as soon your check has arrived. Please allow 3-7 days for mailing. Please note entry deadlines above.
I just voted - why don't I see my votes? New votes will be uploaded at least once a day. How do I get people to cast votes for my dog? The best way to get votes for your dog is to share your enthusiasm with friends and family! Use the "Share" link on your dog's entry page to email friends; print and post at your work or other bulletin boards; or post to your Facebook or other social networking sites. Don't forget to invite your dog's "people" to vote for him or her. Such people might include your dog's groomer, breeder, veterinarian, or animal shelter foster parent or shelter employees where you got the dog, etc. Don't forget to remind everyone that this is a fundraiser for the Fairbanks Dog Park, and we are a local 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
Can I submit a hard copy photo instead of a digital photo? You are welcome to mail a hardcopy of a photo for scanning, but once mailed the photo will become the property of the Fairbanks Dog Park, and will not be returned. The Fairbanks Dog Park assumes no responsibility for the photographs submitted. Why is my submitted photo so fuzzy? Most likely the photo you submitted was low resolution or in an inappropriate format. To get the very best resolution, send a 300 dpi photo at a minimum size of 4" x 6". The larger the better. Do not send gifs, if at all possible. See digital photo hints below. We will refuse digital photo submissions that would not be appropriate for the printer, should the photo win. Read more contest rules.
Help! I am having problems emailing my photo. If you are having problems mailing the photo it could be that the photo is too large. Try reducing the photo (not too much!) with a photo editing program or zipping the photo with a program like Winzip. Your problem may also be your ISP or connection speed. A second method, called FTP (for "file transfer protocol"), for sending files on the internet is available upon special request. Email for more information. Don't forget you can also mail a hard copy photo—but please note deadlines for mailed entries above. To get the very best resolution, send a 300 dpi photo at a minimum size of 4" x 6". It is suggested that you adjust your camera settings to the highest resolution setting. Additionally, trying to create a high resolution photo with a photo editing program that "resizes" the image will not solve the problem. TIFF, PDF, JPEG and some vector file formats are suggested. Gifs are great for the web, but often are low resolution and many will not be usable for the printed calendar. If you have a hardcopy photo you can scan, remember the best possible photo would be 300 dpi at about 7" x 10." Unless you have an 8" x 10 " photo you need to scan at double or triple the required resolution to get the correct DPI. For instance: Scan at 300 dpi at full size. Scan at 600 dpi to double the image size. Scan at 900 dpi to triple the image size.
